My fiance has two BOX 360's. One has the red ring of death. Someone from his online game that he plays with told him to take the broken one, turn it on, wrap it in a blanket, turn it upside down and leave it for 3 to 6 hours, after that turn it back around, turn it off then turn it back on again. He thought the guy was joking but the guy swears to god it works, so my fiance did it and sure enough it worked. I wish I knew this before when my other 360 was sent out for repair. That's why we got the 2nd one. Apparently when you do this the XBOX resets itself. Give it a try before you sell it.

How much is an xbox 360 with the red ring of death worth to someone who can fix it?First of all, the reason an xbox gets the red ring of death, is because the heatsinks move to far away from the GPU and CPU. Do no, and I say do NOT wrap a towel around it and let it run. This is known as the towel method, and although yes will fix the xbox temporarily, it will hurt it in the long run. It doesn't reset the xbox, the towel method simply melts it back in place, only to ruin it later.
I personnally would pay no more than $50 dollars for a broken xbox, and I believe that that is already a fair price. But if you're interested in fixing it yourself, and going into business fixing xboxes, then I suggest you go to this site. Its like $30 to get an account, but trust me its worth it.
You could fix it up yourself pretty easy and either have a working xbox or sell it for a profit since you have extras. There are a lot of guides out there but I've linked the cheapest of the most comprehensive ones offered below. It has exactly the same content as the others including video tutorials for every xbox fix imaginable. the guide is like 23.99 and it pays for itself instantly. The way microsoft gets you is that even if you have a a warranty they will charge you shipping and handling (alone more than the guide) and if they find a work around to where your fix isn't 'under warranty' they'll want $140.00 dollars to fix it and send it back, yes it's retarded. I've used this guide for a while now and the customer support is excellent and i haven't run into a problem I couldn't solve with it while fixing xbox's as a part time job. It doesnt matter if the warranty is out. The red ring of death is Microsoft's fault. They'll repair it for free. It happened to me. Just call 1-800-4MY-XBOX. They'll either fix it or send you a new one.
Getting it fixed is no problem. I had my get the red lights a few time. Fortunately I stumbled upon this website where they give you all the tools to fix it.

If its 3 red rings xbox will fix it for free...even if its out of warranty....get if fixed first and then sell it.
