run a Ethernet cord from your router right to the back of your xbox. Why pay 100 bucks for the adaptor when you can get cheap Ethernet everywhere. I use that on mine and it works great.

However a cable longer than 20 feet will diminish the signal strength and you may get dropped from games. The easiest solution is to bite the bullet and buy the wireless adapter. You can get them for about 60 bucks used.
I'm not sure that's possible. I go to college where everything is wireless and the only solution to obtaining a wireless connection was to purchase that adapter. If u have an amazon.com account then u can just buy a 100ft ether cable for around 20$ , i bought it and i have 0 connection problems
